Editing Photos

On Monday I began editing the photos i took of Liam on Photoshop, i am going to experiment with all the photos i took so i can see which will be the best one. I think i am going to use the one of him in mid-air for the feature article and i am still deciding which would be best for the front cover. I took a one where he is posing as if he is playing the guitar and i think this will be best for the front cover as it is also a mediam shot which will be a big image for the front cover.

Photoshoot

I have just took the photos that i will need for my magazine. Liam borrowed a guitar from the music department, i took still shots of him playing the guitar or just looking into the camera. I then took a photo of him in mid-air as he jumped down a few stairs. It took 3 attempts to get this shot right as it was blury because he was moving. I am happy with my photos so i am going to put them on photoshop and see what i can do to improve them, however i will also take more photos to be safe as the lighting may not be great.
        The photos i have took are typical for a rock magazine. There isnt much to the photos such as things like fancy clothes or extra makeup as it isnt conventions of a rock magazine to be all about image, it is more about the music and how they sound rather than how they look.
         If you look at this front cover from Kerrang for example, it isnt about how pretty she looks but how she represents her bands music.

Photography

Today i have a free lesson next so i will begin to take my photos. Liam has agreed to be the model for my magazine. I am using Kerrang as a style model as im doing a rock magazine. The Kerrang magazine which is in school has You Me At Six on the front cover, i will most likey use this for my style model. I will use typical conventions of a rock magazine for example i will use the colours red, black and white and things such as shattered fonts. I have asked Liam to be the model for my magazine as he has the typical indie/rock look which is ideal for the style of my magazine. In the photos Liam will be holding a guitar and i will get some shots of him just looking into the camera but i will also get photos of him as if he is playing the guitar.

Timeline- Plan

This lesson we have created a timeline to organise our time management and what we will be doing weekly. I am planning to take my photos next lesson as i have a free lesson. Next week i will plan the front cover and contents page and begin to work on them, i will show my teachers my work to see if it is up to the right standard. I will then get feedback and touch up what needs to be improved. We then have a half term so i will begin to plan my feature article. When we get back to school i will finish my plan and begin to write a copy of the article. I will then hand that in to my teachers so they can see what i need to do to improve  and re-write the article. By the 18th of March i aim to have pieced everything together such as the front cover, contents page and the feature article. Then by the 25th on March i hope to have finished and begin to evaluate.

Exam

We had the exam on Wednesday and I think it went ok, the textual analysis was on representation of age. The extract was from E.R. There was a range of different age groups throughout the clip which made it easier to write about. The clip made the older people seem delusional, however, there were two boys in the clip- one very clever and independent for his age, he was suffering from a life threatening illness, the other was very reliant on his mother and his injury was a bite from his pet. The clip showed that just because they were the same age it doesnt mean they are the same.
      I cant remember the question for Section B exactly but we had to chose a media section to use, i chose film. I wrote mostly about synergy and convergence but i used examples such as Slumdog Millionaire, The Dark Knight Rises and Monsters. I explained how the different films used things such as synergy, convergence and viral marketing to profit from the film and also to promote the film. I wrote about all the different kinds of things such as games inspired from the film, action figures etc.

Revision

For the January exam i have been revising by writing textual analysis on things such as Sugar Rush, Downton Abbey and Waterloo Road. I used class and status and authority to write about. I find textual analysis the easier section of the exam so i am spending more time on section B. However, i have been trying to pick certain things out whilst watching the television such as how the camera angles, mise-en-scene and editing etc present certain things, just for practice as well as writing a response. I then looked over the blog and read through the example questions and wrote notes about it. I wrote a few responces to the questions which are on the blog and i have read over it a few times for revision so i feel a lot more confident with it than i did when we first looked at it. I have also wrote notes on media specific language and definitions to make sure i can use the right terminology in my exam response. I am trying to make myself familiar with Spiderman and Slumdog Millionaire so i am confident to talk about them and use them as examples whilst i am talking about things such as viral marketing, synergy and convergence in the exam.
